Maui - Dumps (July 2024)

Dumps is one of the most southern surf spots on Maui. Difficult to predict wind and surf conditions, but It captures selective southern swells mostly long period from the Southern Hemisphere during the summer months, principally July and August. Southern swells during 2024 were relatively sparse, but on my second trip to Maui in July 2024 luckily caught one of the few solid south swells to engage Maui in 2024. It peaked at about 6 to 8 feet over a 3-day period (shown above), but provided some enjoyable left walls that were not barrels but had good length and energy. Larger sets started breaking about half way out in the bay towards the southern point. Beware of the shallow volcanic rock shelf and shoreline and the shallow coral beds; it is not hard to end up face to face with the lava either at the shoreline or one of the several rock outcroppings that can pop up in the interior surf zone. Not for beginners or even more advanced unless you scope it out in advance or go with a local.
